Mother's Day Weekend Walks

Every year hundreds of people gather together to raise money for Save the Mothers through our Mother's Day Weekend Walks – Steps to Deliver Change.

While each of these Walks receives help from Save the Mothers, they wouldn’t be possible without volunteer fundraisers and supporters who work hard to make these events successful fundraising ventures.

Memorials

After losing her mother, one woman generously helped to raise money for Save the Mothers at the funeral. Giving in memory of someone is a thoughtful way to make an impact in the lives of others. One gentleman chose to honour his recently deceased mother by investing part of his inheritance in funding a Mother Baby Friendly Hospital in her memory.

Special Occasion Gifts

One bride and her groom felt they did not need to be showered with any more gifts on their special day so they opted to have guests help raise money for Save the Mothers instead. Each donation went towards helping to save the mothers and newborns in East Africa. Whether it is a birthday, a wedding, Christmas or any other gift-giving time of year, if you would prefer people put their money towards a cause you believe in, this is an option for you.

“Save the Mothers has been an organization that I’ve known about from an early age, but it wasn’t until my family and I travelled to Uganda in 2007 that I truly understood the impact of Save the Mothers’ work. The past three summers I have been an intern for Save the Mothers, where I help with the organization and planning of the Fundraising Gala Auction. This summer I decided I wanted to further my impact for Save the Mothers and organize my own fundraising recital in my hometown. I have been playing the violin for over 15 years and I am continuing my education as a musician at Eastman School of Music where I will be graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor of Music degree. Music is my passion because it allows me to impact others in an extraordinary way, and I wanted to further that passion by performing and organizing a fundraising recital for Save the Mothers. The fundraising recital was a grandiose success raising a good amount of money for Save the Mothers.” – Matthew Eeuwes

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do an event that is not included on the list? 2017-11-15T19:12:47+00:00

Save the Mothers encourages supporters to think outside of the box and host any event they think will be able to raise donations. Events are not limited to those listed above. If you are unsure about your event please contact us.

Will I be reimbursed for the cost of my event? 2017-11-15T19:13:08+00:00

Volunteer fundraising events are a way that non-profit organizations, like Save the Mothers, raise money for their cause. As such, our organization does not normally provide funding for these events. However, we encourage you to seek out sponsors for your event from the surrounding local area.

Do I have to raise a minimum amount? 2017-11-15T19:13:13+00:00

Donations made to Save the Mothers go a long way. In many East African hospitals the cost of a life saving medication (oxytocin) for labouring mothers can be as little as approximately $1. Whether your event raises $20 or $2000, mothers in East Africa will be thankful for your help.

Will I receive a tax receipt for any of my money/item donations? 2017-11-15T19:13:17+00:00

Monetary donations of $25 or more will receive a tax receipt. However, in order to issue a tax receipt we require the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Email (to send an electronic tax receipt)
  • Date of donation
  • Type of donation (cash/cheque/credit card)

Donor cards are available for your event to help collect this information. Any cheques can be made out to Save the Mothers and mailed to: Save the Mothers: 27 Legend Court, Ancaster, Ontario L9K 1P3, P.O. Box 10126

For credit card donations we require the following information, in addition to the information above required for the tax receipt:

  • Name on the card
  • Card type
  • Card number
  • Expiry date
  • Security code
  • Signature

Please note that contributions of services, that is, of time, skills or efforts, are not property, and therefore do not qualify as gifts for the purpose of issuing official tax receipts. For more information on tax receipts please visit: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/taxes/charities.html

How do I start planning my event? 2017-11-15T19:14:46+00:00
  • Once you have thought of your event the next step is deciding on a location and filling out an event application for our team to view and approve.
  • If your event is large enough, you may want to consider putting together a planning committee.
  • You will also want to start marketing and spreading the word about your event.
  • You should consider the logistics of the event (food, parking, ease of access, number of people, theme, entertainment, speakers, emcee, sound system, decorations, etc.).
  • If you have questions about your event please contact us (manager@savethemothers.org) and we may be able to provide more guidance for your specific event.
