In Uganda, a mother plays a pivotal role in the survival of her children. On a recent trip to Uganda we met this mom climbing down the mountain side (in the Elgon Region, north-east Uganda) from her home up top to the community further below.
She has her baby on her back, a machete in one hand and is navigating the ladder with the other hand. This is the only route she has to access medical attention in the health clinic.
Meet Allen, she is the head nurse at the health clinic in the region providing services to these communities.
Ugandan mothers need more midwives like Allen.
