Are you excited that the Save the Mothers Gala is just around the corner? For those who have been to the event before, you know it’s the event of the year (ok…maybe a little bit of an oversell :-))
For those of you who have never been, the annual Gala is Save the Mothers’ biggest night of our year. It’s a chance to come together with other supporters and champions of Save the Mothers to make a huge difference! You will have the opportunity to meet founder Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese, Executive Director Deborah Mensah and the rest of the team, while learning about the important work you support. Best of all, funds raised through ticket sales, donations, and an auction will go directly to training game changers in East Africa who will fight to prevent the tragic deaths of mothers and their babies (click here to skip to event details).
If you already know you want to attend the gala. What are you waiting for? Click here to buy your tickets now.
If you are still on the fence about getting your tickets, here are 8 reasons that you won’t want to miss the gala this Friday, November 16
1. You will save a life
830 women die every day from pregnancy and childbirth related causes, across the developing world. But you can make a difference. By attending the gala, you will be making an investment in people who have the power to save lives. Save the Mothers Master’s of Public Health Leadership Graduates are working in communities across East Africa to address the barriers to safe childbirth.
2. Food. Friends. Fun.
This gala evening has it all. There will be great entertainment, delicious food, terrific hosts, glitz and even glamour. Who doesn’t love a night out, especially for a good cause? The only thing you need to bring, to make it complete, is your friends!
3. Help make hospitals safe for Mother and Baby
Proceeds from the Gala evening also go to support the Mother Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative across Uganda. In Uganda, 97 per cent of health facilities do not offer needed emergency obstetric care services. Save the Mothers is working with Ugandan hospitals to help them become better equipped to provide the care mothers need. At many hospitals, some women labour outdoors until space becomes available for them in the delivery room. Your attendance at the gala will save lives. Your gift ensures that the life-saving equipment, and the training to use it, will reach some of these critical health facilities, saving dozens of lives.

4. You will hear some live African music!
Live music is always a special treat. It is particularly wonderful to enjoy music from other cultures and traditions. Your ticket to the gala includes a feast for the ears: a virtuosic performance of the kora (a West African 21-string lute-harp-like instrument made from a large calabash).
If you don’t know what a kora sounds like, check it out:

5. Magnificent Masters of Ceremony
One of our MCs digs into current affairs, and the other inspires many of us to live healthier lives. TVO’s Steve Paikin and health guru Dr. Joey Shulman will guide you through the gala evening. Not sure where you know those names from? Check out their bios:
6. Get great stuff!
Auctions are fun. Especially when the ‘stuff’ is great. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to bid on some great prizes. We won’t reveal all the fun just yet, but some of the items include:
– Several pieces of fine art
– A beautiful Michael Kors Navy Wallet and Purse
–Two 1-week vacations at a Resort on Cocoa Beach, Florida
The suite, that sleeps 6, has a full kitchen, two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. On-site amenities include arcade room, business centre, Fitness centre, Jacuzzi/hot tub, sauna, sports courts. A great family getaway for the holidays!
NB. This is a great vacation opportunity, but check the timing before your bid.
-First Week up for grabs: December 22-29, 2018 (A tropical Christmas)
–Second week available: March 10-17, 2019 (March Break for some!)
7. The tax receipt doesn’t hurt…
As the year hurtles on, and 2019 draws closer, year-end giving may be on your mind. You might be pleased to hear that with you $120 gala ticket comes a fabulous evening AND a $55 tax receipt– now that’s value!
8. Become a Game Changer
By attending the gala, you are becoming a game changer. Without your generous support, life-saving work just could not happen. That makes you a game changer, too. Not all heroes wear capes; sometimes they wear dresses and suits.
