Did you know that...?

bullet

From the time you had your morning coffee today, until the same time tomorrow...at least 1,600 women in the developing world will have died from preventable complications of pregnancy and childbirth

bullet

Most of these women are from sub-Saharan Africa and Asia

bullet

In the 20th century, pregnancy and childbirth killed more than tuberculosis, suicide, traffic accidents and AIDS, combined

bullet

One in four women who die during childbirth simply bleed to death.  This can often be prevented by a medication that costs only 33 cents

bullet

Half of all women in developing countries don't have a skilled birth attendant at their delivery.  Often, they have only their mother-in-law for help

bullet

The death of one mother often leaves a family of orphans. These children, in turn, are more vulnerable to sickness and death

The goal of Save the Mothers Program is to save some of these 600,000 mothers who die from pregnancy complications.

Save the Mothers will do this by establishing partnerships and building new, self-sustaining infrastructures in developing countries.
